India Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast unsettled weather conditions across the country over the next two to three days. India is expected to witness two contrasting weather patterns at once. States such as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and several others are likely to experience heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, while northern parts of the country will continue to experience heatwave conditions. The altered weather is due to the active monsoon season in the southwest along with the active monsoon trough and cyclonic circulations over the country.
India To Witness Split Weather Pattern
According to the Weather Department, heavy rainfall and thundershowers will hit East India on June 28 while North Plains are still reeling under heatwaves. The country is likely to observe a dual weather situation on June 28, with the southwest monsoon continuing its activity over eastern, northeastern, and parts of central India, leading to widespread rainfall and thunderstorms. Conversely, a delayed monsoon in parts of the northern plains will facilitate the continuance of heatwave conditions in some areas.
States That Are Likely to Receive Heavy Rain
The IMD forecasts heavy to very heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in many parts of northeast India, like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Konkan and Goa, and coastal Karnataka are also on the radar for similar conditions. Some localities in the northeastern states like Assam and Meghalaya may even receive extremely heavy downpours, the Met Department has warned, which could result in localized flooding, waterlogging, traffic snarls, and poor visibility.
Heatwave to Continue in Northern India
While many states prepare for heavy rain, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are expected to remain under heatwave conditions on June 28. “Daytime temperature is anticipated to be quite higher than normal with late progress of the southwest monsoon over some components of North India,” IMD reported. It advised people to remain inside through the day’s hottest part, remain effectively hydrated, and shun strenuous outside physical exercise to curb the probability of a warmth strain ailment.
India is likely to witness two contrasting weather conditions on June 28, with heavy rain affecting several eastern, northeastern, and central states while intense heat continues across parts of northern India. The IMD has advised people to monitor local weather updates and follow official advisories, as weather conditions may change quickly.
