KAMS has extended its moral and peaceful support to protecting Karnataka’s interests in the Cauvery water dispute. As a symbolic gesture, school managements, teaching and non-teaching staff may wear a black ribbon or black strip on August 13. The association has stressed that regular academic activities should not be disrupted.

KAMS has suggested that schools use the occasion as an educational opportunity for students from Classes 5 to 12. Schools may discuss the history of the Cauvery dispute, Karnataka’s dependence on the river for drinking water, agriculture and livelihoods, water scarcity and inadequate rainfall, as well as the reasons behind the state’s concerns. Students may also learn about constitutional processes, judicial decisions, cooperation between states, peaceful democratic expression and responsible water conservation. KAMS said any such discussions should remain factual, balanced, peaceful, educational and non-political.
