Dehradun: Heavy to very heavy rainfall triggered a landslide that blocked the Kedarnath Highway at Munkatiya near Sonprayag in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. Vehicular movement on the affected stretch has been suspended, while authorities have deployed JCB machines and other earthmoving equipment to clear the debris and reopen the route.
The district administration is closely monitoring the situation through the District Disaster Control Room. Officials have also been directed to remain on high alert at vulnerable locations to ensure a swift response to any weather-related emergencies.
Kedarnath Travel Alert:Â Kedarnath Yatra Continues Amid Restoration Efforts
Despite the temporary road blockage, officials have confirmed that the Kedarnath Yatra is continuing without major disruption. District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO) Nandan Singh Rajwar said restoration work is progressing rapidly and expressed confidence that the affected stretch near Gaurikund will be reopened soon. He said JCB machines are actively clearing debris at Munkatiya, while sector officers, Wesk team personnel and other officials stationed along the pilgrimage route are maintaining constant surveillance. Rajwar added that the District Magistrate has instructed all officials deployed in Yatra areas to remain vigilant and respond immediately to any emergency, ensuring the safety of pilgrims and the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.

Kedarnath Travel Alert:Â Authorities Issue Advisory as Rain Affects Other Routes
In view of the continuing rainfall, the administration has urged pilgrims and local residents to remain cautious. People have been advised to stay at safe locations during periods of heavy rain, avoid unnecessary travel and strictly follow official weather and traffic advisories. Meanwhile, neighbouring Tehri Garhwal district has also witnessed rain-related disruption. Traffic on the Nainbagh route has been temporarily suspended after debris fell near Mussoorie Bend (Kempty). Tehri Police said JCB machines have been deployed and debris removal is underway on a priority basis to restore vehicular movement as quickly as possible.
Authorities have further appealed to commuters to travel only when necessary and to comply with instructions and traffic advisories issued by the police and local administration until conditions improve.
