The investigation into the brutal murder of a 36-year-old woman in Thiruvananthapuram has taken a grim turn, as the primary suspect, her husband, was discovered dead on a railway track in Tamil Nadu on Thursday. The victim, identified as Haseena Beevi, was allegedly killed by her husband, Suresh, at their rented home in Nalanchira during the early hours of Wednesday.

A Crime Witnessed by Children

The tragic incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday while the couple’s four children were present in the home. According to local police, the couple’s 17-year-old daughter woke up after hearing a commotion, discovered her mother critically injured with her throat slit, and immediately alerted the Mannanthala police. Although authorities rushed Haseena Beevi to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after.  According to the FIR, Suresh allegedly slit his wife Haseena’s throat on suspicion that she was involved in a relationship with another man.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the couple had a history of strained relations and frequent marital disputes. Police sources indicated that Suresh had allegedly harbored suspicions about his wife, leading to recurring conflicts. Haseena Beevi had recently lodged a complaint against her husband regarding these domestic issues, and police had previously summoned both individuals for counseling in an attempt to resolve their differences. “Initial evidence suggests suicide, but a final conclusion will be made only after completing all legal and forensic procedures,” a police source was quoted as saying.

Fugitive Hunt Leads to Chidambaram

Following the murder, Suresh reportedly fled the scene in a car, which was later discovered abandoned by investigators near the Balaramapuram railway station. Police tracking his movements discovered that he had sold a mobile phone at a local shop in Killipalam before disappearing.  The search concluded Thursday morning when railway police in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, reported that a man had been struck and killed by a train.

Upon examining the site, authorities recovered a mobile phone and an identification card belonging to Suresh. After sharing the photographic evidence with his relatives, police confirmed that the deceased was indeed the primary suspect in the Nalanchira murder case. While authorities are currently investigating the circumstances, they suspect the death to be a case of suicide following the homicide. The police have not yet released the final post-mortem report of the primary suspect. Police are coordinating with their Tamil Nadu counterparts to complete legal formalities and gather additional evidence related to the case.
