Kerala schools are largely open today, August 10, 2026, as there is no statewide holiday announcement. However, educational institutions in some flood affected areas have been ordered to remain closed due to waterlogging, coastal conditions and the continued impact of heavy rainfall.
Which Schools Are Closed In Kerala Today?
In Alappuzha district, all educational institutions, including professional colleges, anganwadis and tuition centres in Kuttanad taluk, will remain closed today due to the prevailing conditions. Schools that are currently being used as relief camps in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts will also remain closed.
In Pathanamthitta, a holiday has been declared for certain flood affected schools in Thiruvalla taluk. Some of these institutions may conduct classes online, depending on local arrangements.
Are Exams Cancelled In Kerala Today?
Pre-scheduled public and school examinations will continue as planned despite the local school closures. Students appearing for exams should follow instructions issued by their respective institutions.
Why Are Some Kerala Schools Closed?
While rainfall has eased in several parts of the state, waterlogging and flood-related conditions continue to affect some low lying areas. The India Meteorological Department has downgraded alerts across most districts, allowing schools in many parts of Kerala to resume normal classes. However, local authorities can announce closures if weather or ground conditions pose a safety risk.
What Is The Coastal Weather Situation?
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services has issued a Kallakkadal warning, with strong waves expected along parts of the Kerala coast. Coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha and Thrissur may experience rough sea conditions.
Schools in affected coastal areas may therefore face localised closures based on decisions by district authorities. Parents and students are advised to check with their respective schools or local authorities for the latest updates before travelling, particularly in flood affected and coastal areas.
