Kumbh Mela Fame Monalisa, Husband Get Threat Over Hindu-Muslim Marriage, Court Says ‘Lucky You’re In Kerala’

The Madhya Pradesh government told the Kerala High Court that Monalisa Bhosle's marriage to Farman Khan is invalid under the Hindu Marriage Act and claimed she was a minor at the time of the wedding. Meanwhile, the couple denied the allegations, accused authorities of manipulating records, and sought anticipatory bail in a case filed on a complaint by Monalisa's father.

The marriage between Kumbh Mela fame viral girl Monalisa Bhosle and Farman Khan is legally invalid under the Hindu Marriage Act, the Madhya Pradesh government told Kerala High Court on Tuesday, adding that it could not be recognized as one of them is a Muslim. In a hearing on petitions connected with the case, Additional Solicitor General S V Raju for the Madhya Pradesh government submitted that even though there was a religious difference between the two, the marriage had taken place in a Hindu temple in Kerala. The state also argued that Monalisa was a minor when she married Khan and still lives with him believing that the marriage was valid.

What Happened Here?

The government continued to rely on the conclusion of an inquiry that was conducted by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) which has recommended that Monalisa is born on December 30 in the year 2009. She was about 16 years, 2 months and 12 days old on March 11, 2026, when the marriage was allegedly ‘conducted’, the commission found. The state pointed out that it was done by ‘competent officials of the constitutional body’ and that the material ‘favours the submission that the girl was a minor when the marriage was solemnised’. One of the arguments that has come to the fore in the court case is her age.

‘Lucky to be in the State of Kerala’

Attorneys for Monalisa and Farman vigorously disputed the state’s assertions and claimed Monalisa’s birth certificate had been falsified, with the help of state officials, to make her appear a minor. The lawyer for the couple also alleged that some fundamentalist groups had got into the picture and had threatened the couple with an honour killing if they came back to Madhya Pradesh. In the hearing, the Kerala High Court in an observation said that the couple was ‘lucky to be in the State of Kerala’ and they said in reply that the reason they have been feeling safe and are alive is because they are in Kerala.

What Is The Latest Update Of The Case?

The couple has applied for anticipatory bail in the case registered by Madhya Pradesh Police on a complaint filed by Monalisa’s father, to which Farmaan Khan, the spouse of Kumbh Mela star Monalisa Bhosle, is granted transit anticipatory bail by the Kerala High Court. Their counsel said that the father was aware of the relationship and has even gone to Kerala on one occasion for the work of Monalisa. The petitioners said that he had initially agreed to marry but now had filed a police complaint after returning to Madhya Pradesh allegedly due to the influence of some groups. The case is still being considered by the judge and issues of legality of the marriage, Monalisa’s age and ownership of the property by either side have yet to be addressed.
