The high-profile Lamborghini crash in Kanpur has taken a dramatic turn after the accused Shivam Mishra’s family claimed he was not driving the luxury car at the time of the accident. The incident, which injured several people and sparked public outrage, now revolves around conflicting versions from police, the family, and the legal team.
Authorities continue their probe as new statements and evidence shape the narrative of what happened moments before the crash.
The central question remains who was behind the wheel when the accident occurred. Police officials have said CCTV footage and investigation findings indicate that Shivam Mishra drove the Lamborghini during the crash. The accident happened on a busy Kanpur road when the luxury car allegedly lost control and rammed into pedestrians and vehicles, leaving at least six people injured.
However, Shivam’s lawyer, Mrityunjay Kumar, has denied these claims.
“Shivam was in the passenger seat. He became unconscious. The vehicle got locked, and therefore the window had to be broken,” the lawyer said.
He added that a person named Mohan has identified himself as the driver.
Shivam’s father presented a different version of events. He claimed that his son felt “sleepy” during a test drive and became unconscious moments before the accident.
“Shivam was seemingly sleepy. The driver got distracted while checking on him. The car was moving slowly, but by then a tempo came in front," he said.
"A driver and Shivam were in the car. I don't know who was driving the car. It will be investigated. There was an issue with the Lamborghini car a day prior to the accident. Mechanics resolved the technical problem. The next day, Shivam and the driver took the car for testing. When they were coming back from Civil Lines, Shivam started to become unconscious, and he started sleeping. When the driver removed one hand to check Shivam, the car slowed down, and an autorickshaw hit the car. The driver was unable to open the window of the car as the car was automatically locked. After that, our security staff broke the glass, opened the gate and pulled Shivam out of the car. When Shivam returned home, the doctor checked him. After a while, we sent Shivam to Delhi for treatment. He is still undergoing treatment in Delhi. I spoke with the doctors, and he is not in a condition to come to Kanpur as of now. The doctor said he would be better in the next 2-3 days... The Police Commissioner is wrong if he says that Shivam was driving the car. No one in our family consumes alcohol or any other stuff..."
He also stated that the vehicle doors locked after the crash, and the window had to be broken to pull Shivam out.
Despite the family’s claims, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal said investigators added Shivam’s name to the FIR based on available evidence, including CCTV footage.
“When Shivam’s name comes up in our investigation, it means that we are satisfied that the driver was Shivam. We have CCTV footage. His name has been included in the FIR," the commissioner said.
Officials confirmed that the Lamborghini has been seized for further examination and that the investigation remains ongoing.
Police have issued notices to Shivam Mishra’s father and continue to record statements from witnesses and those involved. The court will also hear matters related to Shivam’s bail plea and the release of the seized vehicle.
The case has sparked widespread debate about accountability, reckless driving, and the influence of powerful families in accident investigations. As conflicting narratives continue to emerge, authorities say they will rely on evidence and forensic analysis to determine responsibility.
