The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of widespread rainfall across Madhya Pradesh, with several districts expected to receive moderate to heavy showers on Wednesday. An orange alert has been issued for seven districts, while other parts of the state remain under a yellow alert.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution during periods of intense rainfall, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and disruption.
Which Madhya Pradesh Districts Are Under Orange Alert?
The IMD has placed Sidhi, Panna, Umaria, Katni, Dindori, Seoni and Mandla under an orange alert. These areas could receive 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and winds reaching 30-40 kmph. The combination of heavy showers and strong winds could disrupt normal activities and create difficult conditions on roads.
Which Districts Are Under Yellow Alert?
A heavy rainfall warning has also been issued for Rewa, Singrauli, Satna, Shahdol, Anuppur, Balaghat, Jabalpur, Damoh, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Vidisha, Narsinghpur, Raisen and Narmadapuram. Rainfall in these districts could range between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm. Low-lying areas may experience waterlogging if intense showers continue.

The ongoing spell is linked to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bengal-Odisha coast. The weather system is influencing rainfall activity across eastern and central parts of the country, including Madhya Pradesh. With thunderstorms and gusty winds also possible, residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during severe weather.

People in affected districts should remain alert during heavy rainfall and follow local weather advisories. Farmers have also been advised to take precautions to protect standing crops. Residents should avoid sheltering under large trees or standing near electricity poles during thunderstorms, as strong winds and lightning can pose serious risks.

Heavy rainfall has already affected transportation in some areas, with waterlogging reported on roads and railway tracks. Railway authorities are working to clear affected tracks and restore normal services. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their trains and plan their journeys accordingly.
