Maharashtra School Holiday Today (July 8): There have been heavy rains in the Southwest Monsoon that have caused rainwater logging and disruption of traffic in various districts of Maharashtra. As per reports of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall occurs in Maharashtra up to 80% between the months of June and September and July happens to be the most rainy month in the year.

Are Maharashtra Schools Open or Closed Today (July 8)?

There are no statewide holidays for the schools of Maharashtra on July 8 However, in the Palghar district, schools have been suspended due to excessive rainfall and forecast of further rains. On the other hand, in other districts of the state, there will be no change in schedule unless notified otherwise.

Maharashtra Colleges Holiday Today (July 8): Latest Official Update

Most colleges in Maharashtra are operating normally on July 8. Palghar is the only district where colleges are officially ordered to continue their closure. Colleges belonging to various universities, such as SPPU are running classes, barring any other notice from the college authorities.

Are Mumbai Schools and Colleges Open or Closed on July 8?

As of July 8, all schools and colleges will stay open in Mumbai since the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has not made any new holiday announcement for the city. Schools and colleges had been closed on July 7 owing to the IMD Orange Alert while mumbai has a yearly rainfall of over 2,200 mm, of which around 70% is experienced during monsoons. It is for this reason that the closures in Mumbai have been considered depending on the weather situation and not on the amount of rain received.

    The IMD has forecast:

    • Moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts
    • Thunderstorms in isolated locations
    • Gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph
    • Cloudy skies across Mumbai, Pune, Konkan and adjoining regions

    Palghar continues to remain under the highest weather concern due to intense rainfall.

    Why Were Maharashtra Schools Closed on July 7?

    Several districts suspended classes on July 7 after heavy overnight rainfall resulted in:

    • Severe waterlogging

    • Overflowing drains
    • Local flooding
    • Safety concerns for students

    Earlier, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai had also announced precautionary closures during previous Orange Alert conditions.

    Yes, Fresh holidays may be announced if:

    As of July 8, there is no official notification regarding the conducting of online classes by schools and colleges in Mumbai.
