Malviya Nagar Fire Video: Scary Visuals Show Woman Jumping Off Building; Locals Lay Mattresses For Rescue

On Wednesday, a restaurant in Malviya Nagar, south Delhi, caught fire, prompting a massive rescue effort by the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), according to Delhi Police. According to reports, 20 people have died as a result of the fire catastrophe till now.

At least 20 people lost their lives, and a few more were injured after a huge fire broke out in a building that had a restaurant along with a hotel in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday. Footage from the scene looked very horrifying, one could see rescue attempts in real time as dense smoke, and fire spread across the place. In one of the most disturbing moments, a woman is seen jumping from the building, trying to get away from the flames, while nearby residents quickly set out mattresses on the road under her to soften the landing for people trapped on the higher floors. This incident pushed a big emergency response, with Delhi Fire Services personnel, police staff, and disaster management officials all stepping in right away.

What Happened Here?

According to authorities, the fire was reported around 9 AM, and that’s what triggered, the instant dispatch of several firefighting units. In total, more than ten fire tenders, including water tankers, quick response vehicles and specialized gear for fire suppression were sent to the spot. Rescue teams looked like they were working frantically to get people out, those occupants who were trapped inside the smoke filled building. According to reports, South District SDM and DDMA official Jitendra Kumar said that emergency protocols were switched on the moment the information about the blaze came in. While the rescue personnel were grappling with the flames, local residents also stepped in, placing mattresses on the street so that several people who were stuck on the upper floors could jump to safety.

The loss of lives due to a fire incident in Malviya Nagar, Delhi is tragic. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000. 

Where Are The Injured People Now?

A bunch of injured victims were taken to nearby hospitals for care while the rescue work went on the whole day. Before that, early updates said that a few people were already pulled out from the basement and upper floors, but still a lot of occupants ended up trapped when the smoke spread pretty fast. The charred outside of the building and the burnt inside bits showed how ferocious the blaze really was. Eyewitnesses told of chaotic moments, where residents and guests sort of jolted around, trying to find a way out, while firefighters worked hard to get into every part of the structure, or at least most of it.
