Parties in Favour of Vijay’s TVK
Parties including Congress, CPI, CPI(M), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), and an expelled AMMK MLA extended support to Vijay and his party, TVK. While Vijay already secured the required majority tally with their support, he got more support through the rebel AIADMK faction MLAs.
However, Palaniswami had directed AIADMK legislators to vote against the confidence motion and warned that anti-defection provisions would apply to MLAs going against the party. The trust vote proceedings witnessed heated exchanges between the treasury and opposition benches, with the AIADMK accusing the ruling camp of engineering defections, while TVK leaders described the support extended to the government as a reflection of the “changing political mood” in Tamil Nadu.
Vijay’s TVK Floor Test in Tamil Nadu
After taking the oath and forming the government in Tamil Nadu, chief minister C Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), faced a floor test in the assembly today. Vijay proved the majority on the floor of the assembly with a trust vote, days after he took the oath as chief minister.
Vijay’s floor test became a stage for widening the AIADMK internal rift as a faction of the party decided to back the CM. The rebel faction of AIADMK, led by senior leaders C V Shanmugam and SP Velumani, voted for Vijay despite EPS’s warning, leading to a disturbance in the state assembly.
