A training aircraft operated by a private company crash landed near the Baramati airstrip in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Sunday, police said. No casualties were reported in the incident, which occurred at around 12:30 pm. The Cessna 172 aircraft, registered as VT-SEX and operated by Carver Aviation, skidded while landing near the airstrip, Pune Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill said. Two people were on board, and no serious injuries were reported.
What Happened At Baramati Airstrip?
The aircraft met with the accident at around 12:30 pm while landing near the Baramati airstrip. Police are investigating whether the aircraft developed a technical problem or whether another factor caused the incident. “We are investigating whether the aircraft developed a technical snag or if there were any other problems. It is too early to comment on anything,” a senior police official said, according to PTI.
No casualties were reported. The two occupants of the aircraft escaped without serious injuries. The aircraft was operated by private aviation company Carver Aviation.
How Is The Incident Linked To The Earlier Baramati Aircraft Crash?
The incident comes around seven months after then Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was killed in an aircraft crash during a landing attempt at the same Baramati airstrip.
In January, Pawar and four others were killed when their Learjet 45 crashed. The victims also included Pawar’s security officer, an attendant and two crew members, pilot-in-command Sumit Kapur and first officer Shambhavi Pathak. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to submit its final report into that crash by January next year.
