Mumbai: Heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai continues to bash the city and parts of Maharashtra on July 9, causing waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to transport services. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intermittent moderate to very heavy rainfall today, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, promoting authorities to urge residents to remain cautious. While the flights at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) remain operational, continuous unsettled weather has impacted flight schedules throughout the day.

How Is the Rain Affecting Flight Operations?

Continuous rainfall, low cloud cover and reduced visibility have slowed aircraft movements at Mumbai Airport. Air traffic congestion, longer turnaround times and weather-related operational restrictions have resulted in delays to several domestic and international flights. Although the airport is functioning normally, airlines have adjusted schedules to ensure passenger safety, with a few flights also being cancelled.

Advisory for Air Travellers

Airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, Akasa Air and SpiceJet, have issued travel advisories for passengers flying to and from Mumbai. Travellers are advised to:

  • Check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
  • Arrive early, as heavy rain and waterlogging may increase travel time.
  • Keep track of airline notifications for any schedule changes or gate updates.
  • Contact their airline for rebooking or refund assistance if their flight is cancelled or significantly delayed.

Mumbai Airport continues to operate despite persistent monsoon rain. However, adverse weather has led to delays and limited cancellations. The IMD is forecasting more rain and thunderstorms over the upcoming hours. Commuters are advised to keep a close eye on flight timings, updates and plan their journey to the airport well in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

Disclaimer: Flight status is subject to change. Passengers are advised to check with their airline or the airport for the latest updates before travelling.
