Train services between Mumbai and Pune will remain disrupted till July 17 after heavy rainfall triggered landslides in the Bhor Ghat section, damaging railway tracks. Services were affected after heavy rain on July 6 caused multiple landslides between Karjat and Lonavala. According to Central Railway, the landslides damaged all three railway lines, with the worst impact reported near the Thakurwadi and Monkey Hill cabins. As restoration work continues, Central Railway has cancelled 30 train services, while the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has deployed additional buses to assist passengers. Restoration work is underway, but continuous rainfall, difficult terrain, and safety concerns have slowed repair efforts.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the restoration work and said the landslides caused significant damage to railway tracks and nearby areas. He said railway teams are working continuously to restore normal services as quickly as possible.
Which Trains Have Been Cancelled?
The Central Railway has cancelled 30 train services, including:
•   14 daily trains
•   8 trains on selected dates
•   8 special trains
Major cancelled trains include:
•   Deccan Queen
•   Deccan Express
•   Mumbai-Pune Intercity Express
•   CSMT-Hyderabad Express
•   Chennai Egmore Superfast Mail
•   Hubbali-Dadar Express
Several special trains connecting Mumbai and Pune with Gorakhpur, Ghazipur City and Hazrat Nizamuddin have also been cancelled.
What Alternative Travel Arrangements Have Been Made?
To reduce inconvenience, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will operate 200 extra bus trips every day between Mumbai and Pune. These additional buses will run alongside the corporation’s regular 312 e-Shivneri services. Officials said more buses may be deployed depending on passenger demand.
What Is The Latest Restoration Update?
Railway officials said one of the three railway lines has already been restored, while repair work continues on the remaining two tracks. Construction work is challenging because transporting equipment and materials to the affected locations remains difficult. Railway teams are working with the district administration and forest department to complete restoration at the earliest.
What Should Passengers Do?
The Central Railway has advised passengers to:
•   Check the NTES app before travelling.
•   Contact the railway helpline for the latest updates.
•   Follow official railway social media accounts for real time information on train operations.
