Mumbai, and a few other pockets across Maharashtra, noticed a slight noticeable shift in the weather on Wednesday. Pre monsoon showers came in abruptly, and it gave a bit of comfort from the nonstop heat, plus humidity that’s been hanging around the region for weeks. The rain fell pretty hard, and along with it came gusty winds too, which were whipping parts of Mumbai and its suburbs from early morning. For a moment the skyline looked like it had been smeared over, with very thick dark clouds covering. That quick change in conditions basically pointed to the beginning of a more active pre monsoon phase.

Mumbai Weather Today 3 June 2026: IMD Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) put out a yellow alert for several districts , suggesting thunderstorms, rainfall, and gusty winds. The rainy spell kicked off in the early hours of June 3, when thick dark clouds gathered over Mumbai. While a couple of light showers were said to happen in the morning, things got a lot more intense after about 7 AM. In a few suburban pockets, heavy rain was reported and with it came gusty winds, which then lowered visibility in some stretches. People heading out to work and college are basically advised to keep umbrellas and raincoats on hand, because the weather was not really getting stable across the whole city, not yet.

These showers did bring real comfort to Mumbaikars who had been dealing with hot, sticky, humid days for quite a few days. When the pre monsoon kind of rainfall started, temperatures dipped noticeably and daily life felt more bearable. The western suburbs saw comparatively heavier spells, while South Mumbai and some eastern suburban zones only got light to moderate rain. Even with those differences, overall conditions across the metro looked like a clear shift toward the monsoon that’s coming up soon.

Which Areas Are Under Alert?

Meanwhile the Regional Meteorological Centre has put out a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. As per the weather department, these places may see thunderstorms along with lightning and light to moderate rainfall, in a few isolated places. Officials also pointed towards the chance of strong surface winds, with speeds that could reach 30 to 40 kilometres per hour during the thunderstorm spell. People have been told to stay extra alert especially while on the move, because sudden changes in weather can really mess with road conditions, and also bring down visibility.

Meteorologists feel the present weather setup is a pretty clear sign of rising pre monsoon activity along the Maharashtra coast. Dense cloud clusters, rainfall that’s spread out, along with gusty winds all point to conditions that help the southwest monsoon advance in a gradual manner. Even though the rain has offered welcome relief from the heat, authorities are still watching each update very closely.
