Mumbai Weather Update: Mumbai received some relief from heavy rain on Tuesday, but the break is expected to be short lived. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fresh spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the city on Wednesday, along with strong winds and a high tide. While local train services have returned to normal, authorities have urged people to stay alert and ignore fake messages about school and office closures.

Rainfall intensity reduced on Tuesday after two days of continuous heavy showers. Between 8 am and 8 pm, Mumbai recorded an average rainfall of 22.39 mm. The eastern suburbs received 23.04 mm, while the western suburbs recorded 25.93 mm of rainfall. Although the rain eased temporarily, weather officials have warned that heavy showers could return during the day.

Will Mumbai Receive Heavy Rain Today?

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai and its suburbs are likely to receive intermittent spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday. The weather department has also predicted gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph, which could affect normal movement in some parts of the city. Authorities have advised residents, especially those living in low-lying areas, to remain cautious. The IMD has forecast a high tide of 3.77 metres at 5:17 pm on Wednesday. With heavy rain and high tide occurring together, there is a possibility of waterlogging in flood-prone areas. Residents have been asked to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.

Has The BMC Announced A School Holiday?

No. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has clarified that viral social media messages claiming schools will remain closed on July 8 are fake. The civic body also denied reports suggesting that private offices have been advised to work from home. The BMC has appealed to citizens to rely only on updates shared through its official MyBMC social media handles or contact the civic helpline 1916 for verified information.

Are Mumbai Local Train Services Running Normally?

Railway authorities have confirmed that suburban train services have returned to normal after being affected by heavy rainfall earlier this week. Central Railway said trains are operating normally on:

•    Main Line (CSMT-Khopoli/Kasara)
•    Harbour Line (CSMT-Goregaon/Panvel)
•    Trans-Harbour Line (Thane-Vashi/Panvel)
•    Port Line (Belapur/Nerul-Uran)

Western Railway also confirmed that local train services on the Churchgate-Virar route are operating as scheduled. Passengers have been advised to check the latest train status before travelling.

What Advisory Have Authorities Issued?

With heavy rainfall, strong winds and high tide expected, authorities have urged residents to stay updated through official weather and transport advisories before stepping out. People have also been advised to ignore fake messages circulating on social media and depend only on information released by the IMD, BMC and railway authorities.
