Mumbai remains under a Yellow Alert on July 9 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms, lightning,and gusty winds and moderate rainfall across the city. While rainfall intensity is expected to reduce compared to the last few days, isolated areas may still receive heavy showers, and authorities have warned residents about the possibility of flash flooding in vulnerable locations.
Red Alert Issued For Nearby Districts
While Mumbai remains under a Yellow Alert, the IMD has issued a Red Alert for Palghar, Raigad, Nashik, Pune and Satara due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. An Orange Alert has also been issued for Mumbai suburban areas and Thane, where very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places. Authorities have warned that a flash flood risk remains in Mumbai because of continuous rainfall over the past few days. Residents living in low lying and flood prone areas have been advised to remain alert and monitor official weather updates.
Will Rainfall Reduce In Mumbai?
According to weather agency Skymet, rainfall activity is expected to gradually reduce across parts of Maharashtra from July 9. The agency said no fresh monsoon system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days, which could help ease the intense rainfall experienced in Mumbai and its suburbs earlier this week.
What Is The Weather Forecast?
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra. Yellow Alerts have also been issued for Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, where heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places.
