The official forecast alerts residents to prepare for sudden thunderstorms, frequent lightning, and gusty winds shifting between 40 to 50 km/h (with potential peaks gusting up to 60 km/h) as cloud bands advance inland from the Konkan coast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has maintained a Yellow Alert for Mumbai, predicting partly cloudy skies transitioning into isolated thunderstorms, light to moderate rain, and gusty winds later tonight and into the early morning hours. Mumbai is currently experiencing high humidity levels of around 72%, making conditions feel considerably warmer than the actual temperature. A light southwesterly wind of about 5.6 kmph is prevailing across the city, although stronger gusts reaching up to 50 kmph may develop in areas affected by thunderstorm activity.
Despite the unsettled weather outlook, Colaba and Santacruz weather stations recorded no rainfall during the past 24 hours. However, meteorologists have observed increasing convective cloud formation over the Konkan region, indicating favourable conditions for rain and thunderstorm development in the coming hours.

The IMD and RMC projects Mumbai’s monsoon arrival between June 5 and June 10. Expect intense pre-monsoon thunderstorms with severe lightning and gusty winds from June 5 to 7. A brief daytime lull on June 8 and 9 gives way to heavy night showers, culminating in widespread, heavy monsoon rainfall and overcast skies by June 10.
The turbulent weather pattern coincides with the Southwest Monsoon’s arrival over Kerala. According to IMD forecasts, the official monsoon surge is moving steadily and is projected to make landfall near Mumbai between June 10th and June 12th.
