Mumbai Weather Update: The City Receives 80% Of Annual Monsoon Rainfall In Four Days

Mumbai and its suburbs have been lashed by relentless heavy rainfall over the past four days, receiving nearly 80% of the city’s average July rainfall in a remarkably short period. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Santacruz recorded 675.6 mm of rainfall between July 1 and July 4, while Colaba received 500 mm during the same period. The heavy downpour has pushed Mumbai’s cumulative monsoon rainfall beyond the 1,000 mm mark within just 12 days of the monsoon’s arrival, underscoring the intensity of this year’s rainy season. Several low-lying areas have reported waterlogging, leading to traffic congestion and delays in suburban train and bus services.

Civic authorities have deployed emergency teams and pumping stations to manage flooding, while the IMD has warned of continued spells of heavy rain over the coming days. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and stay updated with official weather advisories as the wet spell continues.

Mumbai Local Train Services Disrupted

Several Mumbai trains scheduled for 5 July have been rescheduled or cancelled in view of adverse weather conditions and due to a major block. Despite the relentless downpour, some means of transportation, i.e., metro, buses, and autos, continue to operate. However, commuters have reported delays on parts of the suburban railway network.
