Delhi Gang Rape in the Moving Bus: A shocking incident from northwest Delhi has once again raised serious concerns over women’s safety in the national capital after a 30-year-old factory worker alleged that two men abducted and gang-raped her inside a moving sleeper bus late at night. Police have arrested the bus driver and conductor in connection with the case and launched a detailed investigation.

According to police officials, the incident took place on the night of May 11 in Delhi’s Saraswati Vihar area when the woman was returning home after finishing her shift at a factory in Mangolpuri. Investigators said the accused allegedly dragged the woman into the sleeper bus before sexually assaulting her while the vehicle moved across several areas of the city.

The case has triggered widespread outrage because of similarities being drawn with the 2012 Delhi gangrape case that shook the country and sparked nationwide protests demanding stronger laws for women’s safety.

Delhi Gang Rape in the Moving Bus: What Happened on the Night of May 11?

Police said the survivor lives in Pitampura with her family and was travelling back home after work. She reportedly covered part of the journey in an e-rickshaw before walking towards the bus stand located near B-block in Saraswati Vihar.

According to the woman’s complaint, a sleeper bus stopped near the bus stand during the night, and the woman approached a man standing near the vehicle to ask for the time. Police said the man allegedly signalled her to come closer before forcibly pulling her inside the bus.

Investigators said the bus then started moving towards Nangloi while two men allegedly sexually assaulted and gang raped the woman inside the moving bus.

Authorities confirmed that the survivor is married and has three children.

Delhi Horror: Delhi Police Arrest Driver and Conductor

Delhi Police identified the two accused as Umesh, the bus driver, and Ramendra, the conductor. Officers arrested both men shortly after the complaint was filed. Police officials said the accused have been sent to judicial custody while investigators continue collecting evidence related to the case.

Authorities have also seized the Bihar-registered sleeper bus involved in the incident.

Police Collect CCTV and Forensic Evidence

Police teams are examining CCTV footage collected from multiple locations along the route travelled by the bus. Forensic experts also inspected the vehicle to gather physical evidence from inside the sleeper coach.

An officer involved in the investigation said curtains covered the windows of the bus, making it difficult for people outside to notice what was happening inside the vehicle.

The woman underwent medical examination at Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital after she contacted the police near Nangloi Metro station, where the accused allegedly abandoned her.

Police subsequently registered an FIR under gangrape charges and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Incident Revives Memories of 2012 Delhi Gangrape Case

The case has reminded many people of the brutal 2012 Delhi gangrape case involving a 23-year-old paramedic student, widely referred to as Nirbhaya.

In that case, the woman was assaulted by multiple men inside a moving bus in South Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012, before being thrown onto the road. She later died from severe injuries at a hospital in Singapore, leading to massive protests and major changes in India’s criminal laws related to sexual violence.

Delhi Gang Rape in the Moving Bus: Investigation Continues

Police said further investigation into the case remains underway. Officials are currently analysing digital evidence, route details, forensic material, and witness statements to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Authorities are also examining the operational details of the sleeper bus and verifying how the vehicle was moving through the city during late-night hours.
