NXT Summit 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the NXT Summit 2026, organised by ITV Network, where he spoke about the global energy situation and India’s preparations to handle it. During his speech, the Prime Minister cautioned people against spreading panic about the availability of LPG in the country. He said that creating unnecessary fear could harm the nation, especially when the world is already facing a major energy crisis.

Modi explained that India is actively working on several fronts to tackle disruptions in global energy supply. At the same time, the government is expanding access to cooking gas and strengthening the country’s energy infrastructure to ensure stability.

PM Modi Warns People Not to Spread Fear About LPG

Speaking at the summit, the Prime Minister said that there has recently been a lot of discussion about LPG availability. He warned that some individuals are intentionally spreading fear among the public to promote their own interests.

“There are some people who are trying to create panic. They want to run their own agenda. I do not want to comment on them politically at this time. But I will definitely say that by doing this, they are exposing themselves in front of the public. They are also causing a lot of damage to the whole country,” he said.

According to Modi, such attempts to spread misinformation could weaken public confidence and harm the country’s interests.

Global Conflicts Causing Energy Crisis Worldwide

The Prime Minister also referred to the ongoing global situation, noting that international conflicts have triggered a widespread energy crisis affecting countries around the world.

“The global crisis that has come from the war today, no country is untouchable due to its impact. Everyone is a victim of this crisis to a lesser extent,” he said.

He added that India is actively engaging with world leaders to deal with the situation and minimise the impact of supply disruptions.

“In recent days, I have spoken to leaders of many countries around the world about this. We are also constantly trying to overcome the obstacles in the supply chain,” he said.

LPG Connections and Gas Infrastructure Have Expanded Rapidly

During the summit, Modi also highlighted the major progress India has made in expanding access to LPG and strengthening the gas sector over the past decade.

He pointed out that in 2014 India had around 14 crore LPG connections, which covered nearly half of the country’s households. Today, that number has increased significantly to nearly 33 crore households, meaning cooking gas is now available to a much larger section of the population.

The Prime Minister further noted that bottling capacity has doubled in the last ten years. At the same time, the number of LPG distribution centres has increased from about 13,000 to more than 25,000.

Infrastructure related to natural gas has also grown rapidly. The number of LNG terminals has doubled since 2014, while the country’s gas pipeline network has expanded from approximately 3,500 kilometres to nearly 10,000 kilometres.

India Focusing on Energy Self-Reliance

Modi emphasised that the current global crisis has once again highlighted why energy independence is crucial for any nation.

“This global crisis has once again shown why it is so important for any country to be self-reliant,” he said.

He explained that the government is taking steps to strengthen India’s domestic energy sector, expand infrastructure and reduce dependence on imports. According to him, these efforts are essential to support the country’s growing economy and ensure stable energy supplies for the future.
