Prime Minister Narendra Modi just hit a number no other world leader has ever reached. He now has 100 million followers on Instagram. That makes him the first politician anywhere in the world to cross that mark.
The prime minister joined Instagram back in 2014. That was the same year he first took office. Over the last decade, his account has turned into one of the most followed digital spaces on the planet. People do not just follow him to be polite. They actually engage. They like. They comment. They share.
The gap between Modi and everyone else is honestly pretty wild. He has more than twice as many followers as the president of the United States. Donald Trump sits in second place among world leaders. He has 43.2 million followers. That is a huge number by itself. But Modi has 100 million. So Trump would need to more than double his count just to catch up.
Here is how the rest of the top five shakes out:
Here is the craziest part. If you add up the followers of those five leaders, the total is still lower than Modi's count. He has more people watching him than all of them combined.
The gap inside India is just as big. Nobody else comes close.
Numbers on Instagram are one thing. But what about how people actually feel about him? A few different firms track this stuff. Statista put out numbers in December 2025. They showed Modi with a 70 percent approval rating among world leaders. That put him at number one.
Here is how the top five looked according to Statista:
Morning Consult also tracks this stuff. They put out fresh numbers in February 2026. Their data covered February 2 through February 8. Modi was on top again with 67 percent. Andrej Babis from the Czech Republic came in second at 59 percent. Japan's Sanae Takaichi was fifth at 56 percent. Trump was 11th at 40 percent.
Last year, Morning Consult had Modi at 75 percent. That was the highest among democratic leaders anywhere. South Korea's president at the time was second with 59 percent.
