In a series of posts on X, Mr. Modi highlighted the steps his government has taken to popularize Bose’s ideals while criticizing previous administrations for neglecting the freedom fighter’s contribution.
“On the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, which is observed as Parakram Diwas, we recall his indomitable courage, resolve, and unmatched contribution to the nation. Subhas Chandra Bose’s Inspiration and Early Initiatives
PM Modi revealed that Bose has been a source of personal inspiration throughout his life. To honour him, he launched the e-Gram Vishwagram Yojana as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on January 23, 2009.
“This was a pioneering initiative aimed at transforming Gujarat’s IT landscape. The scheme was launched from Haripura, a place deeply connected with Netaji Bose. I will always remember the way the people of Haripura welcomed me and organised a procession on the same road where Netaji had once travelled,” he recalled.
In 2012, the Prime Minister noted, a major event was held in Ahmedabad to mark Azad Hind Fauj Day, attended by individuals inspired by Bose, including former Lok Sabha Speaker P.A. Sangma.

Efforts to Preserve Bose’s Legacy
Recalling Bose’s glorious contribution to India’s freedom struggle was often overlooked by past governments, PM Modi said. “For decades, efforts were made to forget him. But our beliefs are different. At every opportunity, we have promoted his life and ideals,” he stated.
One significant step, he said, was the declassification of files and historical documents related to Netaji, allowing the nation to access and understand his work more comprehensively.
PM Modi Highlights Bose Jayanti as Landmark Celebrations
The Prime Minister highlighted 2018 as a landmark year, marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Azad Hind government at the Red Fort and Bose hoisting the tricolor in Srivijayapuram (now Port Blair) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“Three prominent islands were also renamed, including Ross Island, which became Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Dweep,” he said.
At the Red Fort, the Kranti Mandir museum now holds significant historical material about Netaji and the INA, including his iconic cap. “This is part of our efforts to preserve and deepen knowledge of his invaluable contribution to India’s independence,” the Prime Minister added.
PM Modi Honoured Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Across the Country
Bose’s birth anniversary was officially declared as Parakram Diwas to honour his courage and patriotism. In 2021, PM Modi visited Netaji Bhawan in Kolkata, from where Bose had famously escaped British custody, describing the experience as inspiring.
A shining symbol of this reverence is the decision to install a grand statue of Netaji next to India Gate in New Delhi. “This monumental statue will inspire generations to come,” the Prime Minister said, underlining the government’s commitment to celebrating the life and ideals of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
