PMC 2026 Election Results: The counting of votes for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) 2026 elections began at 10 am on Friday, and early trends suggest a close contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
Meanwhile, in the Pimpri–Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar's reunion has flopped in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad as BJP-led Mahayuti takes the lead in both the municipal corporations.
According to the latest trends, BJP is Leading 58 Seats, Ajit Pawar's NCP in 5 seats and Shiv Sena is ahead 2 seats in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Election officials say the final results are expected by the evening. Observers are keeping a close eye on these elections, as they reflect the combined strength of the NCP and NCP(SP) in the region.
Voter engagement this year has been notable, with the overall turnout for PMC at 52.42%.
The lowest participation was recorded in Aundh-Bopodi (45.12%) and Wanowrie-Salunke Vihar (45.54%), while the highest turnout of 57.81% came from Shivane-Khadakwasla-Dhayari ward, a new area added to PMC after the city’s expansion.
Political analysts say the BJP is counting on its stronghold in central Pune, while the NCP appears confident of solid support in the suburban pockets.
This year, a total of 1,165 candidates are vying for seats across 41 wards in Pune. In PCMC, 128 seats are up for grabs across 32 wards.
Looking back at the 2017 PMC elections, voter turnout was slightly higher at 55.45%. Back then, the BJP emerged as the clear winner, winning 97 seats, while the NCP secured 39, Shiv Sena 10, and Congress 9 seats. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) got 2 seats, AIMIM 1, and Independents and other parties shared 4 seats.
The 2026 elections are being closely watched not just for the fight between BJP and NCP, but also for how smaller parties and independents could shape the future of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad politics. With results expected later today, citizens and political analysts alike are eagerly awaiting to see which way the balance of power will tilt.
