The Pune Police, on Thursday, have initiated an investigation into a formal complaint filed by a former female project manager at the software corporation Wipro, who alleges that she was subjected to religious harassment and pressured to resign by her superiors. The complaint, which involves a female boss based in Bangalore, alleges the use of “objectionable” and discriminatory language directed at the employee, according to a statement provided by Pune police authorities at a presser.
“A female project manager from Wipro has filed a complaint, alleging that she was subjected to objectionable remarks by her female boss,” Balaji Pandhare, a Senior Police Inspector, stated, as he detailed the department’s response to the case. The police have said that they are currently scrutinising the details of the complaint of religious harassment, which also touches upon allegations of forced resignation, as part of their broader inquiry.
The complaint has been submitted to the Hinjawadi Police, which has now issued a legal notice to the firm seeking reinstatement, compensation, and disciplinary action against those allegedly involved.
Regarding the jurisdictional aspect of the investigation, the police further added that because the accused individual is based in Bangalore, they are coordinating their efforts and will ensure a thorough inquiry.
“The investigation into the company’s internal procedures and the specific remarks made is ongoing, and we have formally invited the concerned individuals for questioning as part of our process,” the police official added. The authorities are now working to verify the claims and determine the next steps in the legal proceedings.
What is the Case About and What has the WIPRO Employee Alleged?
A former female project manager at Wipro has filed a formal complaint with Pune police, alleging that she was subjected to religious harassment and pressured to resign by her female supervisor based in Bangalore. The complainant claims that she was targeted with discriminatory and “objectionable” language, ultimately leading to her forced departure from the company.
Employed at Wipro’s Hinjawadi office, the woman alleged that a female colleague repeatedly pressured her to convert to Islam, promising a better lifestyle. The colleague also encouraged her to establish a relationship with a Muslim acquaintance and give up her Hindu faith, saying that it would improve her lifestyle, social standing, and opportunities to settle abroad. The woman stated that no disciplinary action was initiated against the colleague despite repeated complaints. The woman’s advocate, Vivek Bhosale, alleged that the resignation was obtained under duress and in violation of established legal procedures.
In response to these allegations, local authorities have initiated an investigation to scrutinise both the internal company procedures and the specific remarks reportedly made by the accused. Police officials have confirmed that they are coordinating across jurisdictions to conduct a thorough inquiry and have invited the concerned individuals for questioning to verify the claims regarding the harassment and the circumstances of the resignation.
