Chandigarh:Â The Punjab government has activated dedicated helpline numbers to assist Punjabis stranded in Middle East countries following escalating conflict in the region and disruption of international flight operations. Cabinet Minister Ravjot Singh said the helplines were issued on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ensure immediate assistance to residents facing distress abroad.
The minister said a large number of Punjabis are currently present in Middle East nations for employment and tourism, and the state government has been receiving frequent distress calls, particularly from tourists stranded due to suspension of flights.
He added that despite undergoing medical treatment, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is closely monitoring the situation and remains focused on ensuring the safety and assistance of Punjabis overseas.
Ravjot Singh said a special crisis management team is being constituted to coordinate relief efforts, with senior IAS officers assigned to monitor developments. He added that the Punjab government is in continuous contact with the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate assistance and evacuation wherever required.
Providing relief to stranded passengers, the minister said Oman airspace remains operational and Indians can return via Muscat, from where flights are operating to Lucknow, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Goa and Kochi.
The minister assured that all possible steps are being taken to help Punjabis stranded abroad return home safely at the earliest.
