A shocking incident of violence was reported from Jalandhar, Punjab, where a local leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was shot dead outside a gurdwara in the Model Town area. The killing has triggered panic in the city and raised serious concerns about law and order.
The deceased has been identified as Lucky Oberoi, a known AAP leader in the region.
According to preliminary information, Lucky Oberoi was shot multiple times by unidentified attackers. He reportedly sustained five bullet injuries in the attack.
Following the shooting, Oberoi was immediately rushed to a private hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, confirming the severity of the attack.
The incident occurred outside a Gurdwara Sahib in the busy Model Town locality, an area that usually sees heavy public movement. Soon after the firing, senior police officials and emergency teams reached the spot.
The incident created panic among local residents and devotees present in the area at the time.
After the shooting, the Punjab Police cordoned off the area around the gurdwara and launched a detailed investigation. Forensic teams were called in to collect evidence from the crime scene.
Visuals from the spot showed police personnel securing the perimeter, restricting public movement near the gurdwara, and examining nearby streets and lanes.
Police teams are questioning local residents and shopkeepers to gather information. Officers are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the attackers and understand the sequence of events that led to the killing.
Witness statements are being recorded, and authorities said that the motive behind the attack is still unclear.
It is notable that Lucky Oberoi’s wife had earlier contested municipal elections on an AAP ticket, though she did not win. Oberoi himself was known to be a close aide of Rajwinder Kaur Thiara, the in-charge of the Cantt Assembly constituency.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. Police officials said the investigation is ongoing and assured that all possible angles are being examined.
