Republic Day 2026 Theme

The central theme for Republic Day 2026 is “Vande Mataram”, chosen by the Union Ministry of Culture. The theme celebrates 150 years of the national song and highlights its role in India’s cultural memory and freedom movement.

The official tableau titled “150 Years of Vande Mataram” will showcase scenes that reflect India’s civilisational values, cultural continuity, and collective heritage. According to officials, the tableaux at the parade serve as “moving archives of India’s heritage”, offering visual stories that connect past and present.

Who Are the Chief Guests in 2026?

Adding global prominence to the celebrations, two dignitaries will attend as chief guests at the 2026 parade:

  • António Costa, President of the European Council
  • Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission

Their presence underscores India’s diplomatic ties with the European Union and reflects strengthened international relations.

Republic Day Parade Weather Forecast

Weather plays a key role in the outdoor celebrations. Forecasts for January 26, 2026, predict cool, winter conditions in New Delhi, with early morning temperatures around 10–12°C. Skies are expected to be partly cloudy, which is typical of north Indian winter conditions.

Cloudy but dry weather will still allow the ceremony and flypast displays to proceed smoothly. Viewers at home or on the ground should expect a crisp winter morning ambience during the parade.

  • Guests will be allowed entry from 7:00 AM IST
  • Gates will open before the parade for security checks and seating
  • No prior registration will be required for certain public viewing zones

The Delhi Assembly premises will also host offline cultural programmes on January 25 and 26 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Attendees can explore heritage buildings, enjoy patriotic performances, and see the Vidhan Sabha illuminated in tricolour lighting.

Visitors must carry valid ID proof for security clearance.

Republic Day Flag Hoisting Time

The flag hoisting ceremony for Republic Day 2026 will take place at Kartavya Path on the morning of January 26.

Flag hoisting time: Around 8:30 AM IST (before the parade begins)

The President will unfurl the national flag, followed by the national anthem and 21-gun salute

This flag ceremony marks the formal start of Republic Day celebrations and is watched by millions before the parade begins.
