A four-storey building used as paying guest accommodation collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sunday afternoon, triggering a major rescue operation. Several people are feared to be trapped beneath the debris, although authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number. The structure came down at around 1:30 pm, with emergency teams rushing to the site after receiving information about the collapse.

Delhi Police said two people have been rescued from the debris so far. Officials have not confirmed the number of people injured or still trapped.

Several Students Feared Trapped

The collapse has raised concerns as Satya Niketan is a prominent student locality situated close to Delhi University’s South Campus. An eyewitness claimed that around 50 students may have been inside the building when it collapsed. She said many of them were likely at the accommodation because it was Sunday.

A student who was at the scene told ANI that he could hear people calling for help from underneath the rubble. Visuals from the location showed large crowds gathered around the collapsed structure as emergency personnel searched through the debris.

Rescue Operation Underway

The Delhi Fire Services has deployed at least 12 fire tenders at the site to assist in the rescue operation. An excavator has also been brought in to clear the heavy concrete slabs and metal girders blocking access to the building. Disaster response teams are working alongside firefighters to locate and rescue anyone who may still be trapped. Videos from the site showed rescuers attempting to reach people caught beneath the collapsed slabs.

MLA Confirms Two Rescued

Local BJP MLA Anil Sharma, who reached the spot, confirmed that two people had been pulled out from the debris. He said rescue teams were continuing their efforts as there were indications that more people could still be inside. According to Sharma, some students were reportedly making calls from beneath the rubble, raising hopes that others could be located and rescued.
