School Closed Updates: The schools in many states in northern and eastern India are extended to protect the students from the severely cold conditions, along with a high level of fog. Parents and children are advised to be aware of the announcements on the media as there are various rules for different states and districts.

Extension of Winter Vacations Across States Due to Cold Wave

Due to this prolonged wave of cold weather, there have been cases of rescheduling in schools by different governments. Some schools in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Jharkhand have decided to extend their winter breaks. These conditions have made it difficult for children to go to school because of the severe fog and low temperature.

Delhi School Holiday Update: School Closed Till 15 January

In Delhi, all government, private and aided schools remain closed until January 15, 2026. The Directorate of Education (DoE) confirmed the extension of winter vacation as a preventive measure against cold-related health risks.

Are Haryana Schools Closed?

In Haryana, the Directorate of School Education has declared winter vacation for the state’s government and private schools which will now be closed till January 15, 2026 and normal classes will resume on January 16. District administrations in Ghaziabad have issued extended closures up to Class 8 till January 10 amid continuing cold wave.

Uttar Pradesh School Holiday Update: District-Wise Closure

In Uttar Pradesh, schools up to Class 8 remain closed in several districts:

  • Varanasi: All schools closed from January 7–9 for classes Nursery–8.
  • Lucknow: Closures for classes up to 8 until January 8, including government, private, and KGBVs.
  • Kanpur: Schools for classes up to 8 remain closed higher classes operate in hybrid mode.
    Authorities advise parents to check district notifications as reopening dates may change.

Jammu and Kashmir School Holiday Update

In Jammu & Kashmir, the educational institutions in the Kashmir Valley and Jammu area continue to be shut due to sub-zero temperatures. The classes up to Grade 8 will start from March 1, while other classes will begin from February 22. The extended winter break protects the students against harsh chilling weather.

Punjab School Holiday Update

Punjabi government extends winter holidays till 13th Jan 2026, school administrations have been ordered to keep all the government, private, aided and recognised schools closed in view of the directions issued by the Chief Minister to ensure safety of students during the dense fog and extreme cold. The classes would now resume on January 14.

Rajasthan School Holiday Update

In Rajasthan, the following schedules have been set in Jaipur schools. Grades 1 to 5 will remain shut until January 10. Grades 6 to 8 will reopen on January 9. In Jalore, the students from pre-primary to Grade 5 will remain on break until January 10. It aims at preventing children from falling ill due to the changing weather.
