Activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk continues to receive treatment at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where doctors say his vital parameters remain stable. The hospital said he is under continuous medical supervision, while Wangchuk has announced that he will end his hunger strike if one of three conditions is fulfilled.
What Did Safdarjung Hospital Say About Sonam Wangchuk’s Health?
According to the latest health bulletin issued by VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, Sonam Wangchuk’s vital parameters remain stable. However, doctors said his blood test results still require close monitoring, and he continues to receive medical treatment under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of specialists. The hospital added that continuous medical care is necessary to detect and manage any possible complications at an early stage.
“Blood parameters continue to warrant close clinical observation. Mr Wangchuk remains under continuous medical management and the close supervision of a multidisciplinary team of experts,” the bulletin read.
“Based on the clinical assessment of the treating teams from VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS, New Delhi, continued medical intervention and uninterrupted clinical monitoring remain necessary to ensure early detection and timely management of any potential complications. He is receiving all required medical care, and his clinical condition continues to be closely monitored by a multidisciplinary team of experts.”

Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital early on Saturday after spending nearly a month on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar over alleged examination irregularities. Delhi Police said he was taken to the hospital after medical experts and the Delhi High Court advised immediate hospitalisation due to his deteriorating health.
When Will Sonam Wangchuk End His Hunger Strike?
Wangchuk said he is prepared to end his hunger strike by July 20 if any one of the following conditions is met:
a. If the government takes accountability for the recent failures in the education system, paper leaks, etc or
b. If the leadership of CJP and I reach the doorsteps of Parliament, where MPs and leaders of various parties assure us that they will now take up the issue in the Parliament or
c. If my health or other factors do not permit this, then the MPs and leaders of different parties visit this
In a post on X, Wangchuk claimed he was posting from what he described as “illegal detention” at Safdarjung Hospital. He alleged that his freedom of movement, speech and communication had been restricted while he remained under medical supervision.
