Today Weather Update: Delhi and NCR experienced light rain on Wednesday morning. This gave a little relief from rising temperatures. The rainfall helped cool the weather and made conditions more comfortable for residents across the region. In view of the changing weather, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi, predicting light rain and cooler daytime temperatures.
According to the IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to remain between 26°C and 28°C, while minimum temperatures may range from 13°C to 15°C. The department said night temperatures are expected to stay steady over the next 24 hours, with a slight drop possible thereafter.
The IMD forecast isolated rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over large parts of northwest India. States such as Haryana, Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab may experience thunderstorms along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at some locations.
Apart from this, hailstorm activity may occur at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, and East Rajasthan. The weather agency also forecasted isolated rain/snow at Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh.
In southern India, cities such as Chennai and Hyderabad are likely to experience warm and humid weather, with temperatures rising to 32°C. At the same time, dense fog may form at isolated places in Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.
The IMD also added that the minimum temperatures are likely to rise gradually over northwest and central India in the next 24 hours.
Weather conditions in the hill states are expected to remain active over the coming days. Light snowfall may occur in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu & Kashmir, while rainfall is expected over the northern plains. Isolated thunderstorms could also affect Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh as seasonal changes continue.
Explaining the reason behind the changing weather, the IMD said, "Under the influence of the Western Disturbance, isolated light to moderate rainfall/snowfall is likely over the Western Himalayan Region and isolated light rainfall with thunderstorm & lightning over plains of northwest India on 17th & 18th February".
The IMD has predicted continued isolated rainfall or snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on February 19. Dense fog is also likely to persist in isolated pockets over Odisha and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.
As per the broader weather outlook, both minimum and maximum temperatures across most parts of the country are expected to remain largely unchanged, with no major fluctuations anticipated in the immediate future.
Parts of Delhi and Noida saw light rainfall early Wednesday, a day after the IMD predicted drizzle and a slight fall in daytime temperatures. The weather department had forecast cloudy skies with light rain and issued a yellow alert for Delhi.
Officials said the rainfall would help maintain pleasant conditions, with daytime temperatures staying between 26°C and 28°C, while nights are expected to remain relatively cool.
