All schools up to Class 12 in Ghaziabad will remain closed on July 9 after heavy rainfall caused waterlogging across the district. The decision was taken by the district administration following an orange alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy rain. Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandhad ordered the closure of all schools from Class 1 to Class 12 after continuous rainfall since Wednesday evening led to waterlogging in several parts of the district. The decision was taken to ensure the safety of students as heavy rain is expected to continue.
Apart from Ghaziabad, schools in Mathura and Hathras have also been closed due to heavy rainfall. However, in these districts, the holiday has been announced for students from Class 1 to Class 8.
Heavy Rain Alert Across Uttar Pradesh
The IMD has issued a weather warning for all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Noida and Ghaziabad. The forecast includes thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall, with authorities advising people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel due to waterlogging in several areas.
Waterlogging Disrupts Traffic Across Delhi-NCR
Continuous rainfall led to severe waterlogging in several parts of Delhi, affecting morning traffic. Water accumulated near New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka, and other low-lying areas, causing long traffic jams and delays. In Gurugram, traffic moved slowly on several major roads, including the Delhi-Jaipur Highway near Narsinghpur, Basai, Kadipur, Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, Sector-10A and Sohna Road.
Gurugram Police Advises Work From Home
To reduce traffic congestion caused by waterlogging, Gurugram Police has advised private companies to allow employees to work from home for two days, wherever possible. The advisory aims to reduce unnecessary travel during the ongoing spell of heavy rain.
Flight Advisory Issued For Delhi Airport
Heavy rainfall has also affected travel to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, have advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and allow extra travel time because of waterlogged roads and slow moving traffic. Flight operations are continuing, but passengers may experience delays while travelling to the airport.
