Heavy rainfall continued to cause widespread disruption across several states on July 10, triggering floods, landslides, and road closures in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and the Northeast. Continuous rain disrupted normal life in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, and Jammu & Kashmir. Floods, landslides, and overflowing rivers damaged roads, disrupted transport, and forced thousands of people to move to safer places. At least two people lost their lives, thousands were affected, and rescue teams remained on high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of more rain in the coming days.
What Happened In Uttarakhand?
A teenager lost his life while several others were injured due to heavy rain related incidents in Uttarakhand. According to officials, 118 roads were blocked following landslides, including the Yamunotri National Highway, where a 100-metre stretch near Syanachatti was damaged. The Gangotri National Highway also witnessed repeated disruptions due to falling rocks and boulders. Authorities have stepped up monitoring as rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, continue to flow at higher levels.
How Was Himachal Pradesh Affected?
In Himachal Pradesh, a 70 year old man died after falling boulders hit him in Kullu district. Two other people were injured in Solan after rocks struck their vehicle. Heavy rainfall also forced the closure of schools in several areas, while 27 roads in Shimla remained blocked. Officials warned that continued landslide activity could threaten connectivity in parts of Kinnaur district.

Flood Situation In Mizoram And Tripura
Heavy rain caused rivers to overflow in Mizoram, forcing more than 80 families to leave their homes in Lunglei district. A major landslide blocked National Highway 54, leaving tourists stranded for several days and cutting off southern districts from the rest of the state. Tripura also witnessed extensive damage, with over 4,000 houses affected and nearly 11,000 people staying in relief camps. No deaths have been reported in either state so far.
Flash Flood Hits Jammu & Kashmir
Flash floods affected the Ari area of Mendhar subdivision in Jammu & Kashmir’s Poonch district. Several houses were damaged, while police rescued at least 25 stranded people from flood hit areas.
More Rain Expected
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue in several states over the coming days. Authorities have advised people living in vulnerable areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel and follow official weather advisories.
