Heavy rainfall over the past few days has disrupted normal life across Uttarakhand’s hilly regions, with landslides and falling debris blocking several roads and major highways. The disruptions have affected vehicular movement and left locals and tourists stranded in several areas.
Which Roads Are Blocked In Pithoragarh?
The Tanakpur-Tawaghat highway in Pithoragarh was closed near Bagdihat, between Askot and Jauljibi, after torrential rain triggered a blockage late Monday. Several vehicles, including ambulances, are reportedly stranded on the route, while debris clearance work is yet to begin. The closure has disrupted connectivity to Dharchula, Bangapani and Didihat tehsils. At least 25 roads across Pithoragarh have also been affected by the rainfall.
In Munsyari, drinking water supply has been disrupted. Overnight rain also blocked more than a dozen roads in Nainital and caused a rise in the water level of Nainital Lake.
How Has Rain Affected Bageshwar And Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway?
In Bageshwar, continuous rainfall has blocked 21 roads, affecting connectivity across the region. Meanwhile, heavy debris fell from a hillside between Kaudiyala and Vyasi on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway on Monday, bringing traffic to a halt. Vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road following the blockage. Authorities are expected to clear the affected stretch once debris removal operations begin.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall in the upper regions of Uttarakhand in the coming days. Residents and tourists have been advised to follow official weather and travel advisories and avoid unnecessary journeys through landslide-prone areas. Authorities are also monitoring vulnerable roads and routes as continued rainfall could trigger further landslides and disruptions.
