Dehradun: Uttarakhand witnessed widespread rainfall, while the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rain for the coming 24-hour period. The department also issued an orange alert. Taking into consideration the weather prediction, all classes from 1st to 12th and anganwadi centres in Dehradun district will remain shut down on Saturday, July 18, as a precautionary measure.

Schools to Remain Closed in Dehradun

According to an order issued by the Dehradun District Magistrate’s Office, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in the district over the next 24 hours, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and intense rain showers. Considering the Orange Alert and the need for disaster risk reduction, a one-day holiday has been declared on July 18 for all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres catering to students from Classes 1 to 12.

Authorities Directed to Ensure Compliance

The order applies to all government, government-aided, and private schools, as well as all Anganwadi centres in Dehradun district. The directive also instructs the Chief Education Officer and the District Programme Officer to ensure that all educational institutions and Anganwadi centres strictly comply with the closure order.

Heavy Rain Likely Across Uttarakhand Over the Next Few Days

According to the weather department’s warning, the state will be experiencing severe weather conditions over the course of the upcoming days.

July 18 Forecast

Between July 18-21, there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall according to the prediction made by the department. Residents of Dehradun, Nainital, Champawat, and Bageshwar districts are told to stay on high alert on July 18 as an Orange Alert has already been issued for these areas.

July 19 Forecast

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted for isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar and Bageshwar Districts on July 19.

July 20 Forecast

Dehradun, Nainital, Haridwar & Pauri districts of the state are likely to witness similar weather conditions as on today (July 20). It’s been observed that Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Chamoli, Bageshwar & Pithoragarh districts will get heavy rainfall at isolated locations on 20th July.

July 20 Forecast

The Bageshwar district of the state will get heavy to very heavy rainfall, whereas Dehradun, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts of the state will get heavy rain at isolated locations on 21st July. During the said period, other districts might experience intense rain showers.
