All government, aided and private schools in Uttarakhand’s Pauri Garhwal district will remain closed on August 19 as authorities issued a one-day holiday amid forecasts of heavy rain and lightning. The closure covers educational institutions for students from Classes 1 to 12. The district administration has also ordered all Anganwadi centres to remain shut on Wednesday as a precautionary measure.
Why Are Schools Closed In Pauri Garhwal?
The holiday was announced after the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun forecast adverse weather conditions in the district. District Magistrate Swati S. Bhadauria ordered the closure, with authorities citing the safety of students and children. Parents and students have been advised to follow official updates from the district administration regarding weather conditions and the reopening of schools.

Landslide Reported In Pauri Garhwal
A landslide was reported in Mehrgaon village of Satpuli tehsil, prompting the administration to step up rescue and relief efforts. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to intensify the response following the incident. Teams from the district administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police were sent to the affected location and began rescue operations. The school closure comes as parts of Uttarakhand remain vulnerable to disruptions caused by heavy rainfall, lightning and landslides.
