Uttarakhand School Holiday Tomorrow: There is currently no statewide school closure order for Uttarakhand on August 20, 2026. Schools are generally expected to remain open and operate according to their normal schedules unless the concerned District Magistrate, local administration or individual school announces otherwise.
School closure decisions can be taken at the district level because weather conditions can differ significantly between Uttarakhand’s hill and plain areas. Therefore, students in one district could have a holiday while schools elsewhere continue operating normally.
Parents should not assume that an IMD rain warning automatically means schools across the entire state will remain closed.
IMD Issues Heavy Rain and Thunderstorm Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Heavy Rain, Thunderstorm and Lightning alert for isolated places across Uttarakhand on Thursday. Heavy rainfall is expected in several areas, including Dehradun, Nainital, Bageshwar, Rudraprayag and Udham Singh Nagar.
The state is already experiencing a prolonged wet spell, leaving soil saturated in several mountainous areas. Further heavy rain could increase the possibility of landslides, mudslides, falling rocks and flash floods.
Rain May Disrupt Roads and School Travel
Heavy rainfall could create serious travel problems, particularly in Uttarakhand’s mountainous regions. Major highways and smaller connecting roads can become blocked by landslides, debris and falling boulders.
Routes around the Rishikesh-Badrinath and Kedarnath corridors are particularly vulnerable during intense rainfall. Students travelling through hilly areas should therefore check road conditions before leaving home.
Parents should also confirm whether school buses, vans and other transport services are operating normally.
Parents Must Check Local School Updates
Since there is no statewide closure announcement, parents and students should monitor school WhatsApp groups, SMS alerts, official apps and school websites for the latest information.
They should also check notifications issued by their local District Magistrate or district administration. A closure order could be announced late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning if weather conditions deteriorate.
