Uttarakhand Weather Update: Uttarakhand is famous for facing immense rain during monsoon months. And according to the  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), similar conditions will once again prevail in the hilly state.  The monsoon will likely affect the ongoing pilgrimages in Uttarakhand as well. 

Uttarakhand Weather Update: IMD’s Recent Forecast

In its most recent forecast, the  Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, which recently faced flash floods and landslides. Orange alert generally signals heavy to very heavy rainfall. Expect thunderstorms, waterlogged roads and lots of overcast skies. 

Uttarakhand Weather Update: Is Uttarakhand at Risk of Floods? 

According to the IMD, heavy rain will heavily linger across Uttarakhand. As a result, there will be a moderate flash flood risk in both regions of the state  Kumaon and Garhwal. Since the soil across Uttarakhand as well as neighbouring Himachal Pradesh is already heavily saturated from consecutive days of monsoon downpours, even brief spells of rainn could trigger mudslides.

The IMD has forecasted that widespread monsoon activity and heavy rainfall will linger across Himachal Pradesh for the next six days. As a result, residents should race for travel disruptions and high water levels in rivers and other water bodies.

The stormy weather in Uttarakhand will most likely affect the following districts: 

• Dehradun 

• Bagheshwar 

• Nainital 

• Uttarkashi 

• Chamoli 

• Rudraprayag 

• Pauri Garhwal

However, the remaining districts of Uttarakhand have also been put on high alert and will be constantly monitored by the IMD, as the state is highly proe to landslides and flash floods.
