Uttarakhand Weather Update (July 10): Uttarakhand has been facing torrential rainfall for the majority of this week. As a result, the state authorities have declared that schools will remain shut in at least 10 districts. Close to 107 road closures have been announced.
Uttarakhand Weather Update: IMD’s Recent Forecast
In its latest forecast, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red (extreme rainfall) and orange (significant but not dangerous) alerts for all districts in Uttarakhand.
“Very heavy to extremely heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat districts of Uttarakhand. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and very intense to extremely intense spell of rain likely to occur at isolated places over Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Champawat districts of Uttarakhand”, the IMD’s latest forecast for Uttarakhand reads.
Uttarakhand Weather Update: Schools Shut Down in 10 Districts
Due to the ongoing weather conditions, schools from classes 1 to 12 have been shut down in 10 districts of Uttarakhand. This is because the IMD has placed those districts on a red alert for rainfall. Affected districts include:

Uttarakhand Weather Update: 107 Roads to Close Down
The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) of Uttarakhand has announced the closure of 107 roads, due to landslide concerns. Among those, 9 are major state highways, 97 are rural and link routes, while one belongs to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). The landslides have led to debris accumulation, with mudslides and fallen trees on many of those routes.

Yes, Uttarakhand is currently at a high risk of floods and landslides. The alarming water level in Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers has caused overflowing. And landslides have already caused closures of over 100 roads in the hilly state.
