A badminton player from Punjab’s Jalandhar reportedly narrowly escaped death after a heart attack, he collapsed right there on the court during a match, thanks to the swift response of two off-duty doctors who happened to be present at the venue. The incident took place at the Raizada Hansraj Stadium, where Deepak Pujara was playing badminton when he suddenly fell unconscious. In moments, the shock of the medical crisis spread through the ground, among players and spectators alike, yet the doctors’ immediate help turned out to be the deciding factor and he was kept alive before he could be taken to a hospital.

What Happened Here?
As confusion kept building around the stadium, staff members began calling for proper medical support, and they also arranged the emergency supplies on the spot. Meanwhile, Dr Nitish Garg and Dr Piyush Sharma, who had come to the sports complex for casual recreation, quickly understood how serious it was. They did not wait around for the official team to reach the venue. Instead, both of them rushed to Pujara’s side and started emergency treatment right away. They told the staff to bring the available health kit and whatever medical tools were at hand, and they continued checking his condition while he was still on the badminton court.
How Was Deepak Pujara Saved?
The rescue effort picked up speed after the emergency response crew finally reached the venue, and Dr Garg quickly moved in to start cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) try to revive Pujara. Then, when there wasn’t any immediate response, the doctors basically decided to bring out the defibrillator. In close cooperation with the medical team, they delivered an electric shock in order to kick start and steady the player’s heart rhythm. This actually worked, because Pujara’s vital signs slowly began to get better following the defibrillation. Their prompt call and medical know how helped avoid something that could have turned into a deadly tragedy later on.

After the revival went well, Dr Garg and Dr Sharma kept assisting Pujara as he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, for extra care and observation.
