Delhi has been shaken by a severe heatwave situation in the last few months. This raised concerns about public safety and infrastructure risks across the country. In the middle of this weather, a terrible fire tragedy took place in South Delhi. At least 21 people were dead and several others suffered injuries after a massive fire struck a multi-store restaurant at Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out at Lemon Green Restaurant, a multi-storey restaurant at Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar. The officials said the blaze ripped through at about 8.50 am, whereas the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received a call about the incident at about 9.45 am.
The firefighting and rescue people rushed to the place. The incident is under the jurisdiction of Nehru Place fire station.
Three people were fetched from the restaurant’s basement and rushed into the hospital through the Centralised Accident and Trauma Services (CATS) ambulance. The superordinate for the rescue operation on the rescue site was the Divisional Officer Ravinder from the Nehru Place fire station, Delhi Fire Service said.
Delhi Police said that 11 people injured were flushed from the building and transferred to hospitals around the metro for treatment. The authorities said they will check the state of the wounded through doctors.

How Was the Fire Brought Under Control?
A senior fire official said that 10 fire tenders were deployed to contain the blaze. After several hours of firefighting efforts, the fire was brought under control.
However, rescue teams continued searching the building to ensure no occupants remained trapped inside.

AAP leader Somnath Bharti claimed in a social media post that several of those affected were South African nationals. However, authorities have not independently confirmed the nationality of the victims.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Fire officials and police personnel are continuing their inspection of the premises as investigations into the tragedy continue.
