Weather Today (23, February 2026): As February comes to an end, the weather in India is changing. The northern part of the country is warming up, while the southern part is preparing for heavy rainfall unusual temperature fluctuations and some local weather characteristics have made everyone alert.
India is experiencing an unusual change in the weather patterns with the first signs of summer setting in, especially in the northern and central regions. The southern region is still experiencing rains due to low-pressure systems, but the plains are warming up to levels that are unprecedented for the end of winter.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated snowfall in the Himalayan regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to affect Odisha, Kerala, Assam, Meghalaya and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The North Indian plains are expected to remain clear, with a rise in temperatures.
Experts have identified clear skies, arid conditions and the subtropical westerly jet stream as the factors that are causing the early onset of heat. The sun is energizing the earth, and this is causing the mercury to rise three to five degrees above normal in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh and if this continues, a record-breaking heatwave is on the cards.
