Rainfall is likely to continue across several parts of India on Sunday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy showers at isolated locations in northern, eastern and northeastern states. Delhi is expected to remain cloudy with moderate rain, while parts of the National Capital Region, including Noida and Gurugram, have been placed under a yellow alert.
What Is The Delhi Weather Forecast Today?
The national capital is likely to experience generally cloudy conditions with moderate rainfall on Sunday. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could settle at around 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. Unlike some neighbouring NCR areas, Delhi has not been issued a coloured weather warning.
Recent rainfall has already caused waterlogging and traffic problems in several parts of Delhi-NCR. Gurugram, in particular, witnessed severe congestion, with traffic on the Delhi-Gurugram expressway stretching for nearly 10 km. The continued showers have also brought down temperatures in Delhi. On Saturday, Safdarjung recorded a maximum of 27.6 degrees Celsius, around 6.5 degrees below normal.
Yellow Alert In Noida, Gurugram And Other NCR Areas
While Delhi is not under a coloured alert, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad have been placed under a yellow alert. The warning comes amid persistent rainfall that has affected traffic movement and led to waterlogging in several low-lying areas across the region. Commuters are advised to check local traffic and weather conditions before travelling, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
Heavy Rain Forecast In Several States
The IMD has predicted fairly widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi on Sunday. West Uttar Pradesh is also likely to receive fairly widespread rain, while similar conditions are expected in East Uttar Pradesh between September 6 and 8. East Rajasthan could receive isolated heavy rainfall on Sunday. The weather system is also expected to affect several northeastern and eastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Thunderstorms And Strong Winds Likely
Several regions could experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds along with the rain. Winds of 30-40 kmph may occur at isolated locations in Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Karnataka, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, as well as West Rajasthan. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal could experience stronger thunderstorms, with isolated locations likely to see lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
Rain Forecast For Monday
The wet spell is likely to continue into Monday, September 7, although the number of regions expected to receive heavy rainfall may decrease. The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, East Madhya Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand and West Madhya Pradesh.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely over parts of the northeast, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and other areas. With rain expected to continue across Delhi-NCR and several other parts of the country, residents should monitor local weather alerts and allow additional travel time in areas vulnerable to waterlogging.
