Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a seven-point reform framework called ‘Sapta Dhara’, outlining a roadmap to accelerate India’s development and help achieve the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047. Addressing the nation from the Red Fort on Independence Day, Modi said work that could not be completed over the past five to seven decades must be achieved within the next five to seven years.
Drawing a parallel with the ancient reference to the ‘Sapta Sindhu’, or seven rivers, Modi said India needed a new set of strengths to drive its development journey. “In the coming 5 to 7 years, what could not be achieved in the last 5 to 7 decades, through the prowess and power of this Sapta Dhara, we will give the nation new heights, new momentum, and the capability to surpass new goals,” he said.
The Prime Minister also called for greater participation of India’s youth in nation-building and stressed the need to transform India’s work culture, thinking and pace of execution to meet the Viksit Bharat 2047 target.
What Is PM Modi’s Sapta Dhara Framework?
The ‘Sapta Dhara’ refers to seven key streams of strength that Modi identified as important for India’s transformation. The framework focuses on manufacturing, infrastructure, defence, sustainability and other areas considered crucial to strengthening the country’s economy and strategic capabilities.
What Is The First Pillar Of Sapta Dhara?
The first stream identified by Modi is manufacturing power. He called for India to move beyond increasing production and develop complete domestic value chains covering components, design and finished products. Modi said India should become a trusted hub in global supply chains and compete globally on cost, quality and scale. He also emphasised zero-defect and precision manufacturing as an Indian identity.
What Is Gati Shakti In PM Modi’s Sapta Dhara?
The fourth stream is Gati Shakti, which focuses on seamless and faster connectivity. Modi stressed that efficient movement of people and goods would be essential to supporting India’s economic growth and strengthening infrastructure.
What Is Raksha Shakti?
The fifth stream is Raksha Shakti, under which defence capabilities have been identified as a key pillar of India’s national strength and self-reliance. The focus is on strengthening India’s defence capabilities as part of its broader development and strategic objectives.
What Is The Green And Blue Economy Pillar?
The sixth stream focuses on the green economy and blue economy. This pillar links India’s development ambitions with sustainable growth, the maritime sector and opportunities arising from the country’s extensive coastline. The framework comes as the government seeks to accelerate reforms and strengthen India’s domestic capabilities while positioning the country as a competitive player in global manufacturing, supply chains, infrastructure and emerging economic sectors.
Modi said the coming five to seven years would be crucial for achieving goals that had remained incomplete for decades, with the seven streams of ‘Sapta Dhara’ intended to provide fresh momentum to India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.
