An American citizen was arrested near the India-Nepal border after he was allegedly found trying to cross into Nepal without valid travel documents. The man, identified as Jordan Brown, is now being questioned by multiple intelligence and security agencies. While officials say no suspicious or anti-national links have been found so far, his identity and travel history are still under verification. Here’s everything you need to know about the case.

Who Is Jordan Brown?

Jordan Brown is a 36 year old American citizen who claims to be from California. He was arrested by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) during a routine patrol near the Sonauli border in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district on Saturday, July 11. According to police, Brown was allegedly trying to enter Nepal without valid travel documents when he was stopped by SSB personnel. A case has been registered against him under the Immigration and Foreigners Act for entering India without proper documents.

During questioning, Brown said he had travelled to Thailand on a tourist visa but lost his passport there. He claimed that he later travelled to Sri Lanka by sea and entered India through the sea route in November 2025. He also said he had been living in Goa since then and was travelling from Bengaluru to the Sonauli border to enter Nepal when he was stopped. Officials said all of his claims, including his identity and travel history, are being verified.

What Have Intelligence Agencies Found So Far In The Investigation?

Brown was stopped during a routine SSB patrol near the Sonauli border. Officials said that when he was asked to show his documents, he allegedly tried to run away. However, SSB personnel chased him and arrested him. The Sonauli border is one of the busiest border crossings between India and Nepal and is under strict security.

According to PTI, officials recovered Rs 31,460 in cash and two mobile phones from Brown. It is not yet clear whether the cash was in Indian or Nepalese currency. A Hindustan Times report also said that officials found a mobile phone, Nepalese currency, religious books, an AI translator device, a Chinese passport, a diary, a wristwatch and other personal belongings. Investigators are examining all the recovered items, especially the Chinese passport.

Several central intelligence and security agencies have questioned Brown after his arrest. So far, officials say they have not found any evidence linking him to suspicious or anti-national activities. However, the investigation is still ongoing. Agencies are checking all of Brown’s claims, including his identity, travel history and how he entered India, before reaching any conclusions.
