His leadership has been exemplary in strategic positions across Kashmir and with other army formations and his constitutional appointment is a manifestation of India’s tradition of engaging experienced military leaders to fulfil key roles in governance.

Hasnain completed his education at Sherwood College in Nainital. He then pursued his B.A. (Honours) in History from the University of Delhi in 1972.
