What happened at Bengaluru Airport with Korean Woman?
The victim had talked to India today; she had completed her immigration formalities when she was approached by an airport staffer, Affan Ahmed, to inspect her baggage & she also mentioned how he harassed her by claiming a “beeping” sound was coming from her luggage during security clearance.
“He said my check-in luggage was making some beeping sound during check-in. It made me worried that I may be in a terror situation or something serious. So, I was willing to go for a personal security check,” she said to India Today.
Bangaluru Airport Sexual Abuse Case
The Korean woman immediately reported her complaint to the police officials & airport security personnel, who detained Affan Ahmed and handed him over to the police at Kempegowda Airport. This incident was captured by airport CCTV.
Afterwards, police filed an FIR against the staff member under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), dealing with sexual harassment, arrested him there & police also checked his background whether he has other records or not.
The case draws attention to the loopholes in airport security procedures for staff interaction and body search procedures, thus reinforcing the need for better training to better protect international travelers. None of the initial reports indicated that there had been previous complaints against Affan Ahmed; however, the investigations are still in progress.
