A powerful Lamborghini supercar lost control and ploughed into pedestrians and vehicles on Kanpur’s busy VIP Road on Sunday afternoon, injuring at least six people. The dramatic incident happened around 3:15 pm near Rev-3 Mall, causing panic among locals as emergency responders rushed to the scene.

Police say the luxury Lamborghini, travelling at high speed, first rammed an auto-rickshaw and then smashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, flinging its rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The car finally came to a halt after crashing into an electric pole.

Witnesses reported that the driver appeared intoxicated and initially tried to flee after the collision. Bouncers travelling in another vehicle allegedly tried to protect him and behaved aggressively, leading to a scuffle with bystanders. Angry locals eventually smashed the car’s windows and pulled the driver out.

Police arrived soon after, controlled the crowd, and shifted both the driver and the injured victims to a private hospital. The damaged Lamborghini was later seized and taken to the police station, and an FIR will be registered.

Who is Shivam Mishra?

The driver of the Lamborghini has been identified as Shivam Mishra, the son of KK Mishra, a well-known tobacco businessman. Eyewitnesses and officials say Shivam was behind the wheel when the car lost control and struck pedestrians and vehicles.

Shivam Mishra is the owner of the Banshidhar Group. Shivam Mishra has been living a lavish lifestyle with luxury cars worth over Rs 60 crore, all bearing the same number plate ‘4018’.

Local accounts suggest Shivam may have been under the influence at the time of the accident, though police have not yet publicly confirmed the results of any medical tests. After the crash, his security aides allegedly tried to shield him from angry onlookers, escalating tension at the site.

Shivam has previously made headlines due to his family’s business and investigations into their financial affairs, which brought him into the public spotlight before the Kanpur crash.

Who is KK Mishra?

KK Mishra is a prominent tobacco merchant whose company operates in multiple states. His business, Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd, supplies tobacco and related products to major gutkha manufacturers. The Mishra family is wealthy and well-known in business circles, and Shivam’s luxury car collection reflects that status.

Because of their influence and high profile, the Kanpur accident has drawn attention not only for the injuries it caused but also for the alleged behaviour of Shivam and his associates immediately after the crash.

What Was the 2024 IT Raid on the Family Business?

In 2024, income tax authorities conducted multi-state raids on the Mishra family’s business network. Officials searched several locations linked to Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd as part of an investigation into financial discrepancies.

The action involved teams operating across several states, looking into inconsistent income declarations and suspected tax evasion. Investigators reportedly found unaccounted cash, luxury assets, and signs of offshore transactions during the raids. Villas and a fleet of luxury vehicles, including high-end cars with matching number plates, were also seized at the time.

Though the full outcome of those probes has not been widely publicised, the 2024 income tax action placed the Mishra family in the media spotlight long before the Kanpur Lamborghini incident brought renewed attention.

Shivam Mishra also owns costly watches, diamond-studded jewellery, and cash, which the tax officials have seized. The raids have exposed a huge discrepancy between the declared assets and the actual income of the Banshidhar Group, which is suspected of hiding its money using offshore accounts and manipulated ledgers.

What Happens Next?

Police continue to investigate the Kanpur accident. The Lamborghini remains in custody, and authorities are expected to register an official FIR. Locals have protested alleged delays and perceived leniency due to the family’s influence, while officials insist that legal action will follow established procedures.

The injured are receiving treatment, and further updates on legal proceedings are awaited as the city grapples with the implications of the high-speed crash.
