Speculations have been spreading like a fire that K. Annamalai is already sidelined within the BJP, but the political scene in Tamil Nadu says the story may be far from over. As anticipation builds ahead of his Chennai mega press conference on June 5, questions are growing louder: is this the beginning of his exit from the Bharatiya Janata Party, or a reset of his political role?

A few sources are now speculating that the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief may be making a big political announcement soon. They say Annamalai’s exit from BJP is already concluded. His biggest press conference in Chennai is sure to add to the speculation or rumours about his resignation or even a new political party.

Annamalai Met Amit Shah

On June 2, Annamalai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. Reports say he had informed party leaders that he wanted to exit the party. But after a conversation, they had urged him to delay his resignation talk till everything had come through internally. They assured him that they would give him an answer post talking with themselves.

Is a New Political Party on the Cards?

Although Annamalai’s next move has not been declared, people close to him say he is contemplating a “people’s movement” that could transform into a party. The plan has been discussed for months, as speculation started to heat up recently.

People close to Annamalai say their actor is concerned that Tamil Nadu politics is changing as high-profile personalities like Vijay enter the arena, and that the new environment may be influencing his next political decision.

Before heading to Delhi, Annamalai had already hinted at an upcoming clarification, saying, “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days.” All eyes are now on June 5, when his Chennai press conference is expected to finally answer whether he is quitting the BJP or charting a new political course.
